Why we do events

The business of farming is still done face to face

The Irish Farmers Journal has reported on Irish agriculture since 1948. Most of that work has been done in print and, more recently, on farmersjournal.ie. But the deals are still done in the mart ring, at the shed door, and over a cup of tea at the end of a long day.

Our events exist for that reason. They take the analysis readers get every Thursday and put it in a room with the people it concerns — dairy farmers weighing a contract, tillage growers costing next spring’s inputs, families working out how land passes to the next generation.

Each one is built the way an article is built: a specific question, the right people to answer it, and no filler. Speakers are chosen because they know the subject, not because they are available. Programmes are set by the same editorial team that writes the paper, and no sponsor buys a slot on a stage.

In 2026 the Journal runs twelve events of its own, from a single-evening briefing on land values to Dairy Day at Punchestown. Our reporters will cover fifteen more. Every date is on the calendar below.

“You get a full day of costings you can hold up against your own figures. There is no other room in the country where that happens.”

— Attendee quote to be supplied, Dairy Day 2025

Documentary photography, not stock. Warm soil and overcast Irish light — no saturation, no drone overlays.

What we do

Two kinds of date in the diary

The events we build ourselves, and the industry dates where the newsroom moves on site. Both are on the calendar; they are not the same thing.

Specialist events

12

Built by the Journal’s editorial desks around one question, with a programme set in the newsroom. Ticketed, costed and reported afterwards in the paper. Twelve dates in 2026.

Dates we don’t own but won’t miss. The newsroom moves on site: live reporting, mart-side commentary, the stand, and the podcast recorded in the field. Fifteen dates in 2026.
